I worked for about a decade in pathology after I did my BA in Applied Science. What I realised during that time is that despite my knowledge and experience, all I was doing was testing my patients but I wasn’t able to help them.
I wasn’t able to give them advice on how to improve their health. I decided to train further and become a Naturopath.
Being able to use functional pathology and general pathology in your practice is hugely beneficial to your clients.
While pathology results may appear fine when discussing with their doctor, your patients often feel they are not as well as they could be.
Being able to go through the numbers with them and provide them with the knowledge of what those numbers mean will empower them and encourage them to take ownership of their health.
Pathology is a snapshot of your patients’ health at that particular point in time. You need to consider it in the context of your consultation with them. It can drive the questions you ask investigating their overall health concerns. It may also provide confirmation on what you think the issues are.
At the very least, pathology results will give you a baseline and will assist you in tracking the trend throughout their treatment with you.
